THE WHIDBEY DANCE TEAM

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

"We gather in the spirit of love to serve the One and the community, promoting peace and understanding through the Dances Of Universal Peace, which celebrate all spiritual traditions. We commit to honor and grow into the living spirit, transmission and lineage of the Dances Of Universal Peace."

REQUIREMENTS FOR MEMBERSHIP

1.   A living commitment to the Dances Of Universal Peace and the purpose of the Whidbey Dance Team (above) demonstrated through a consistently active, heartfully embodied involvement with the DUP on Whidbey Island, over time.

2.   Be a member of The International Network for the Dances of Universal Peace.

3.   If leading dances, have a Mentor Teachers Guild approved, certified dance mentor or supervisor with whom you check in regularly.

4.   A commitment to “do your own work”, that is, to practice the Whidbey Dance Team Covenants of Peace (below) and take personal responsibility for your own practice, growth and relationships – seeking the aid of a teacher or guide as necessary.

5. Regular, consistent attendance and participation at Whidbey Dance Team business meetings, dance practices and public dances, and adherence to the established Whidbey Dance Team guidelines for practice within each of these venues.

COVENANTS OF PEACE

* We practice fairness and equal treatment toward all members.

*  We empower and support each individual light to shine.

* We strive to hold a container that is energetically healthy for every member.

* We ask clearly for what we want or need and offer clearly what we can.

* We listen to each other without casting judgment, and agree to "call home" our projections and assumptions through a constant internal dance of self-reflection.

*We use a talking piece when we wish to slow down the action and hear each voice. Anyone can initiate the talking piece.

* In moments of challenge individual members will breathe, use silence, dance or call upon the Sufi Invocation (as given by Hazrat Inayat Khan) to center ourselves. At times we ring the bell and call this pause for the whole group.

* What is said in this circle remains within our negotiated understanding of confidentiality, and what occurs in this circle is handled respectfully by all.
